Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
High surf with breaking waves of 4 to 6 feet along the lower South Carolina coast and 5 to 7 feet along the Georgia coast will occur. The combination of strong northeast winds, elevated tides and large breaking waves will increase the risk for significant beach erosion. A High Surf Advisory may be issued for Tuesday and Tuesday night.
Recommendations
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
