The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 2.5 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. If you are in a basement, be prepared to move to a higher floor.

- At 104 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms across Middlesex county NJ producing rainfall rates of up to 2"/hr. This will cause urban and small stream flooding once it moves into the area. - Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected, locally 3" possible, over portions of the area through 4pm. This rain will result in minor to moderate flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Flatbush, Bayonne, Plainfield, Linden, Coney Island, Todt Hill, Crown Heights, The Verrazano Narrows Bridge, Huguenot, Canarsie, Bay Ridge, Port Richmond, Brooklyn Heights, Tottenville, Clark, Tompkinsville, Oakwood, Bensonhurst, Park Slope and Sheepshead Bay. - This includes the following Event Locations... The areas affected include... Sandy Hook NJ to Fire Island Inlet NY out 20 NM... New York Harbor... At 230 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were located over Raritan Bay, moving east at 20 knots.
Recommendations
Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes.
