At 1018 PM HST, emergency management reported water over Hana Highway between Hana and Hamoa around 8 pm. Rainfall rates have been deceasing over the area and is now around 0.5 to 1.5 inches per hour. Water over the highway is receding. Another band of heavy showers southwest of Maui may increase showers again in the next couple of hours. Will continue to monitor for any additional heavy rain. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Emergency management. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Hana, Kipahulu and Hamoa.
Recommendations
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry.
