FFWHFO The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the * Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Kauai in Kauai County * Until 145 AM HST. * At 930 PM HST, radar and automated rain gauges indicated moderate to heavy rain moving over Kauai from the south, with more rain upstream. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour, and streams across Kauai remain elevated. Waimea River and Hanapepe River have been steadily increasing and Hanalei River remains closed. Additional heavy showers moving through could result in sharp rises in streams and new or worsening flooding. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... The island of Kauai.
Recommendations
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry.
Thu 3:06 PM → Fri 6:00 PM HST
WHAT
Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
WHERE
all Hawaiian Islands.
WHEN
Through Friday afternoon.
IMPACTS
Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Low pressure northwest of the islands will draw deep tropical moisture northward across the state, bringing the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms capable of producing flash flooding.
Recommendations
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
