2 Active Notices
Sun 4:00 PM → Tue 7:00 AM EST
WHAT
Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 2 feet. Winds gusting as high as 70 mph.
WHERE
Portions of eastern, northeastern, and southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
WHEN
From 4 PM this afternoon to 7 AM EST Tuesday.
IMPACTS
Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.
Recommendations
Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
Mon 1:00 AM → Mon 7:00 AM EST
WHAT
Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways (11.3 to 13.2 feet Mean Lower Low Water).
WHERE
Eastern Essex, Suffolk and Eastern Norfolk Counties.
WHEN
From 1 AM to 7 AM EST Monday.
IMPACTS
Shallow pockets of flooding less than one foot deep affects the lowest lying areas along the coast, including Morrissey Boulevard in Boston. Most roads remain passable. Flooding up to one foot deep affects coastal roads on the North Shore from Salem to Gloucester and Newburyport. Rough surf will cause flooding on some coastal roads around the time of high tide due to splashover.
Recommendations
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
