Flood Watch from NWS Seattle WA

WHAT: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

WHERE: Portions of northwest and west central Washington, including the following counties, in northwest Washington, Clallam, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, San Juan, Skagit and Whatcom. In west central Washington, King, Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish and Thurston.

WHEN: Through Friday afternoon.

IMPACTS: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: - An atmospheric river moving into the region early this week will bring periods moderate to heavy rain to the region. Sharp rises will be possible on area rivers, especially those flowing off the Olympics and Cascades. Urban and small stream flooding is possible for areas with poor drainage. Special Weather Statement from NWS Seattle WA

Rainfall of 1 to 4 inches over the past several days has increased antecedent soil moisture to high levels across western Washington. Heavy rainfall of 2 to 6 inches across the lowlands and 4 to 10 inches over the Olympics and Cascades is expected Monday morning through late Wednesday. This amount of rain will put extra pressure on soil instability, leading to an increased threat of landslides and debris flows, especially from recent burned areas.
Areas most susceptible to landslides debris flows under these conditions are steep coastal bluffs, other steep hillsides or road cuts, and recent burned areas. A diminishing threat of landslides and debris flows will continue for several days after the rain ends.

WHAT: South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected.

WHERE: Portions of northwest and west central Washington.

WHEN: From 7 AM this morning to 10 PM PST this evening.

IMPACTS: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Flood Warning from NWS Seattle WA

WHAT: Moderate flooding is forecast.

WHERE: Skokomish River at Potlatch.

WHEN: From this afternoon to Thursday evening.

IMPACTS: At 17.5 feet, the Skokomish River will cause moderate flooding, with deep and quick flood waters inundating some residential areas, many roads, and much of the farm land in the Skokomish Valley. Inundated roads include the Skokomish Valley road, Bourgault Road West, Purdy Cutoff Road, and Highway 106.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: - At 11:30 AM PST Monday the stage was 15.3 feet. - Flood stage is 16.5 feet. - Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage late this afternoon to 17.7 feet late tonight. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow evening to 16.4 feet late tomorrow evening. It will rise above flood stage again early Wednesday morning to 17.5 feet late Wednesday morning.
