Surf is expected to build along north and east facing reefs this evening as the primary northeast trade swell and secondary north swell increase, associated with a southward-moving shear line. This will lead to hazardous surf along north facing reefs of the Marianas, and a high rip current risk along north and east facing reefs. Swell and surf will continue to build through Monday, followed by a brief lull on Tuesday. Then, a significant trade swell is expected to move through the Marianas, reinforced by a strong trade-wind surge behind the shear line. Surf will increase further and could become dangerous at times along north and east facing reefs, especially around Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Recommendations
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
