WHERE
Tinian and Saipan Coastal Waters.
WHEN
Until 5 PM ChST Tuesday.
IMPACTS
Conditions will be hazardous to small craft.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Winds and seas will begin to rapidly increase late tonight, from north to south across the Marianas as a shear line shifts southward through the area. Combined seas will build to near 11 feet around Monday morning as sustained winds increase to around 22 knots. These strong winds will continue to propagate south across Rota and Guam waters starting around Monday evening, and the Small Craft Advisory will likely be expanded to include these coastal zones. After a brief lull in hazardous conditions Tuesday, seas and winds will rapidly increase Tuesday night as a significant trade-wind surge builds behind the shear line, reinforcing the north-northeast swell and wind waves. Combined seas may begin to reach 15 feet by Wednesday morning as winds become fresh to strong, with frequent near-gale to gale-force gusts possible. Seas and winds will begin to relax by the end of the week, after a peak in hazardous conditions around Wednesday. However, as seas remain elevated, a Small Craft Advisory may need to be maintained into the weekend.
Recommendations
Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in hazardous conditions.
